Block Twitter on Mac
"I'll just check Twitter for a second." 45 minutes later, every time. Sloth makes Twitter unreachable.
Why blocking Twitter is hard
Twitter (now X) is designed to keep you scrolling. The infinite timeline, notifications, and trending topics are all optimized to hold your attention. Most browser extensions can block twitter.com, but you can bypass them by opening a different browser, using incognito mode, or just disabling the extension.
How Sloth blocks Twitter
Sloth blocks both twitter.com and x.com (and their www versions) at three levels:
- DNS - redirects the domain to localhost so it never resolves
- Firewall - blocks Twitter's IP addresses at the packet filter level
- Browser - redirects any tab visiting Twitter to a "blocked" page
This works in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, and every other browser. You can't bypass it with incognito mode, a different browser, or iCloud Private Relay.
Set it and forget it
You have three options:
- Quick block - tap to block Twitter for 1-4 hours right now
- Schedule - block Twitter every weekday 9 AM to 5 PM automatically
- Daily budget - give yourself 20 minutes of Twitter per day, then it's blocked until tomorrow
block twitter. get your time back.
$29 one-time. works across all browsers. can't be cheated.
